Change can be uncomfortable, even distressing. My goal as a Psychologist is to assist individuals in navigating the change process. I strive to help each client build skills, alter outdated and maladaptive thought and behaviour patterns, reduce suffering, and practice acceptance around what we cannot control or change.
I work largely from a cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) framework; however I also incorporate other therapeutic approaches into my work where appropriate, including motivational interviewing, mindfulness, dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). Although I have specialized training in working with people suffering with psychosis, I enjoy working with a diverse group of clients facing psychological challenges including anxiety, depression, relationship and career issues or transitions as well as with individuals interested in psychological growth more generally. I believe that the journey towards change begins by meeting yourself where you are in the present and moving forward with compassion, acceptance, and tolerance of uncertainty. I help my clients find value in the process of change, as well as move towards a desired outcome or goal.
My approach to treatment is client centered. We will work together to better understand your particular challenges and identify targets for change that are related to your values and what is important to you. I believe the relationship between client and therapist is key for seeing change in psychotherapy and work to foster an individualized but effective approach with each client.
Depending on the nature of your concerns or issues, therapy can be short term (approximately 8-12 sessions) or longer term (6+ months, 20 sessions or longer.) I will work with you to identify treatment needs and agree on a course of therapy to address them. My fee is 250$ per 60 minute session. You may have access to extended healthcare benefits for Registered Psychologists, or be able to claim these expenses on your income tax.
